Prime Minister Mario Draghi today signed the DCPM Energy for Sardinia. The now definitive text had already received the go-ahead from the ministers of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti, of Infrastructure Enrico Giovannini and of the Ecological Transition Roberto Cingolani.

In terms of the electricity system, the extension of the national electricity transmission network is planned through the construction of the Sardinia-Sicily cable which is part of the Tyrrhenian Link, with a programmed power of 550 megawatts.

As regards the supply of methane gas, the national network will be extended to Sardinia, also for tariff purposes, through a virtual connection that includes a set of infrastructures: a fixed FSRU ship in the port of Portovesme with adequate storage capacity to serve the south industrial and the basin of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, another FSRU ship in Porto Torres with capacity suitable to serve the industrial north and the basin of the Metropolitan City of Sassari, a regasification plant in the port of Oristano that will serve the neighboring areas .

The gas will arrive on the island thanks to "shuttle" ships that will depart from the terminals of Panigaglia (in Liguria) and Olt (in Tuscany) and will serve Portovesme, Porto Torres and Oristano.

In recent weeks, government officials had received pressing and public invitations not to sign and "reopen the discussion" on the text of the decree. Governor Christian Solinas himself had taken pen and paper and wrote in particular to Giorgetti, his ally of the Lega party, asking to delay the signing because that text would not have provided "certain information on the timing of the works, it does not define the quantities of gas we need, it ignores almost the entire province of Nuoro, does not allow tariffs in line with the national ones, leaves to others the choices on the possible Cagliari regasification plant ".

On the yes front, instead, Confindustria and trade unions lined up, pressing to accelerate the methanisation of Sardinia.

THE UNIONS - Satisfied the trade unions. "The Dpcm - observes the secretary of Uiltec Sardegna Pierluigi Loi - foresees the arrival of gas in the Sulcis, Oristano and Porto Torres poles, giving the hope of the production recovery of companies such as Eurallumina or the possibility of reducing energy costs to companies like Portovesme srl, which in this period of very high energy costs is leading to the shutdown of the production lines ".

The CGIL, with the number one in Sardinia Samuele Piddiu and the regional secretary of Filctem Francesco Garau, remembers having solicited the measure for months "as the first indispensable act of a larger project which, with the construction of the backbone, will also guarantee us the equalization of rates ".
