Tonino Deplano has officially entered the elite of world taekwondo by earning the prestigious ninth Dan black belt title from the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation. This remarkable achievement makes him the fourth Italian in the world to achieve this level in the ancient discipline of oriental martial arts.
The award was recently conferred in Muju, South Korea, considered the beating heart of the taekwondo tradition, during a solemn international ceremony attended by representatives from 177 nations. A historic figure and pioneer of taekwondo in Sardinia, Deplano has been a national figurehead for years , esteemed not only for his technical skills but also for his commitment to spreading the martial art's authentic values: respect, discipline, and individual growth, with hundreds of young enthusiasts having trained at his school.
Local institutions also echoed his statement. "The Municipality of Dorgali congratulates Grand Master Tonino Deplano," Mayor Angela Testone stated. "This recognition honors not only the Maestro, but also Dorgali, bringing our community's name to a top-level international stage." This success is a source of pride for the entire area.
