Bad news for Matteo Lecca, the boxer from Cagliari who recently won the title of Italian Supergallo weight champion.
The National Anti-Doping Tribunal, accepting the request proposed by the National Anti-Doping Prosecutor's Office, suspended him as a precautionary measure for the violation of articles 2.1 and 2.2. Lecca tested positive for the following substances: GW 1516 METABOLITES (GW 1516 SULFONE, GW 1516 SULFOXIDE).
The control was ordered by NADO Italia, the national anti-doping organisation.
The athlete wrote a short message on social media: «I have already taken the first steps to protect my personal and sporting integrity. Until yesterday I was totally unaware of the substance found by anti-doping and today I am sad and angry because never, ever, as a man and as an athlete, have I looked for shortcuts (and anyone who knows me knows this). I have always fought against my adversaries, against my demons and against everything that has gone wrong in recent years and I will certainly not give up in the face of this absurd situation." «On 30 September 2023 – continues Lecca – I became Italian Supergallo weight champion and I became so with merit and against a strong, very strong opponent. Nothing and no one will be able to take away this enormous satisfaction obtained in the gym and in the ring. I won't add anything else – he concludes – because now is the time to defend yourself and often you do it even in silence."
The 26-year-old had beaten Iuliano Gallo in the seventh round by technical knockout.
