We will know by July 16 whether the Domus de Janas will be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List . Ambassador Liborio Stellino, Italy's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, officially nominated the typical pre-Nuragic tombs during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee , currently underway in Paris.
The Committee includes representatives of 21 states, including Italy, elected from among the 196 countries that are party to the 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
During this session, which concludes on July 16, the Committee will evaluate 30 new site nominations (24 cultural, 5 natural, and a mixed site) . Italy has nominated prehistoric rock-cut tombs, evocative funerary architecture typical of pre-Nuragic Sardinia, dating from the Middle Neolithic to the Copper Age and the early Bronze Age (between the 5th and the end of the 3rd millennium BC). "Italy," said the ambassador, "is proud to promote a site that highlights the profound connection between culture, history, and territory, enhancing the harmony between humanity and nature."
