Jannik Sinner is the new number one in world tennis.

Novak Djokovic has in fact officially withdrawn from Roland Garros , leaving the field free for the Italian tennis player, who from second place therefore climbs to the top step of the ATP rankings. He is the first Italian to reach this high.

The Serbian champion was forced to withdraw before taking to the court for the quarter-finals of the Parisian tournament, due to an injury to his right knee suffered in the second set of his match in the round of 16 against Francisco Cerundolo.

"In the third game of the second set I slipped and this affected my knee," the Serbian tennis player said after the match, explaining that he was only able to finish the match thanks to the anti-inflammatories and saying he was pessimistic about the rest of the tournament. Then the announcement of his retirement, which came with Sinner on the court against Dimitrov, who the Italian champion then defeated in three sets (6-2, 6-4, 7-6), reaching the semi-final.

After the match the words of joy: «Becoming number one in the world is everyone's dream , but at the same time seeing Novak like this is sad: I wish him a speedy recovery», said Jannik. Adding, moved: «Thanks to my team who made all this possible.
