Dinamo Sassari takes home City of Cagliari. In the final at PalaPirastu, Markovic's white-blues beat the Italian vice-champions Virtus Bologna by 69-68 thanks to Cappelletti's decisive basket 15 seconds from the siren and continue their pre-season journey with confidence.
In front of two thousand very enthusiastic spectators at PalaPirastu, the Sassari team (without Halilovic, out as a precaution after the blow to the face suffered in the semifinal against Paok Salonicco), played the game well from the very beginning thanks to the excellent form of Vincini. The young pivot from Turin was in fact the inspiration for the initial break of 10-2 in favor of Banco, who closed in the 10th minute with a 20-12 lead showing excellent attitude on both sides of the field.
In the second period, Virtus reacted by exploiting the physicality of its big men (Zizic above all) and got back on track by improving its defensive focus. Two consecutive triples by Morgan and a basket at the buzzer made by Clyburn allowed the Bolognese to take the lead of the match and go up by 1 at the 20th minute (37-38).
Upon returning to the field, the game got nasty after an altercation between Sokolowski and Clyburn (sanctioned with a double technical). The Black Vs took advantage of the brawl to shift the inertia to their side, but after a few minutes of settling in, Banco got back on track with the energy of Vincini and the quick points found by Cappelletti and Sokolowski (53-50 at 30'). In the final point by point, it was the lucidity of Cappelletti himself that decided the game, who with a nice reverse basket, a handful of seconds from the final siren, allowed Banco to give the decisive push to the match and take home the victory.
Dinamo will continue its preparation with the Sarajevo tournament, scheduled for September 14 and 15. Five days later, the official commitments will arrive, with the Champions League preliminaries in Antalya.
