Regional Council President Michele Pais spoke as a speaker on the topic of interoperability before the European Commission for Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) in Brussels .

“Digital continuity is the new frontier of European Union cohesion. Through interoperability, designed to favor and improve the quality of life of the citizens of the Union, it will above all be the peripheral territories, the inland areas especially those at risk of depopulation, and the islands , often sacrificed by short-sighted policies on connections, on the transport of people, goods and energy to reap the greatest benefits: they will see the gap that separates them from the decision-making and administrative center of the Union decrease », he explained.

" By 2030, we hope for the birth and development of a network of interconnected public administrations that closely collaborate to reduce the current fragmentation in the implementation of policies and in the pursuit of the EU's digital objectives", he added, highlighting how the times for the path are shortened.

For Pais «in this cooperation project, in order to pursue common objectives, a great role must be played by local authorities, above all insular and peripheral ones and those affected by the phenomenon of depopulation, which must be supported in their involvement by providing, first of all, that the costs of the digital transition are not all borne by local administrations but that there is support from national and European authorities".

The process, which began with the report of the president of the regional council, should end in May, with the approval by the plenary session of the Committee of the Regions.
