The differentiated autonomy project arrives tomorrow at the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Chamber, but there is alarm at the "lack of attention paid to the Islands".

It was launched by Michele Cossa, Forza Italia candidate for the race for the European Parliament : «We are concerned about the lack of consideration given to the issue of insularity in the examination of the project on differentiated autonomy which is preparing to get the green light tomorrow final of the Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Chamber. There cannot be differentiated autonomy – adds Cossa – without taking into account the new article 119 of the Constitution and the principle of insularity, a victory for all the islands, major and minor, of Italy".
«Differentiated autonomy - explains Cossa - presupposes that all regions start from equal positions. It can only be implemented by keeping in mind and firm the principle on which Sardinia has fought so hard in recent years: "The Republic recognizes the peculiarities of the Islands and promotes the measures necessary to remove the disadvantages resulting from insularity".

«The Islands - continues Cossa - are not North or South, but belong to a different category because compared to other Regions: territorial discontinuity heavily influences the lives of citizens and the economic development of those territories. Not considering insularity would be a very serious injustice."

For this reason, concludes the FI candidate, "it is also necessary to reaffirm in the law on differentiated regionalism the more favorable clause for special regions and the subordination of the implementation phase to article 119 in its entirety".
