There are three people indicted in the investigation line that hypothesizes the crime of forgery for a medical certificate relating to Davide Astori , the Fiorentina captain and former Cagliari player found lifeless on March 4, 2018 in his hotel room in Udine .

Professor Giorgio Galanti, as director of Sports Medicine of the Aou di Careggi, the sports doctor Loira Toncelli and Pietro Amedeo Modesti, who succeeded Galanti in the post and accused of destroying a true act, go to trial for forgery. Galanti himself in May 2021 was sentenced to 1 year in prison for manslaughter.

This time the accusation is related to the alleged falsification of a medical certificate for an exam that the player would never have actually undergone.

Loira Toncelli, Galanti's collaborator, allegedly falsified the certificate relating to the “strain”, an in-depth examination performed to observe the responses of the heart muscle. "I am convinced - says Galanti's defender, lawyer Siegfried Fenyes - of the absolute criminal irrelevance of the fact, the investigating judge deemed it necessary to investigate the matter further during the trial, and we will face it with our reasons".

The first hearing of the trial is set for December 16, 2022.
