The feared stop of Italian road haulage, proclaimed for next Monday , March 14, by road haulage companies at national level "due to force majeure", was rejected by the guarantee commission for the strike.

This was confirmed by the commissioner delegate of the Commission, Alessandro Bellavista, thus holding back the possibility of starting the mobilization. The information sent to Trasportiunito-Fiap and the Ministries of Infrastructures and the Interior reveals in fact the "failure to comply with the notice period of 25 days" and refers to "the obligation to predetermine the duration of the abstention".

The announcement of the protest, in recent days, had caused fear of the blockage of goods, especially food products, and fuel supplies, so much so that throughout Italy - also due to the alarm about possible further increases - there was a race to the purchase of pasta, sugar, flour, oil and rice, with rows of cars at the petrol pumps, with real scenes of collective psychosis in Sardinia, where entire shelves have been emptied in some supermarkets and some distributors have remained temporarily out of fuel.

"Since no trade union organization has proclaimed anything, we are not talking about a strike but a lockout announced by the owners of small transport companies - says the general secretary of Filt-Cgil Sardinia Arnaldo Boeddu - the problem of expensive fuel is there and The reasons for the protest can be shared because the inconvenience is spread throughout the supply chain up to the final consumer but structural solutions are needed from the government starting with the abatement of excise duties. In addition, in Sardinia there is the peculiarity that all goods travel on rubber and therefore the price increases are higher. This is why the Region can put in place some refreshments but which must go to companies that correctly apply the contractual rules also in the field of workers' health and safety ".
