There is no evidence of collusion between the airlines . Thus the Competition and Market Authority (Agcm), at the end of an investigation into flight prices started in December 2022 following a report from Codacons, "acquitted" the companies .

The investigation launched by the Antitrust aimed to ascertain whether Ryanair, Wizz Air, EasyJet and Ita had violated article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) and whether there was illicit coordination through algorithms and artificial intelligence in the dynamics formation of the prices of airline tickets to and from Sicily.

According to the reconstruction made by the Antitrust and explained in Il Sole 24 Ore, airlines define their offers based on static decisions and dynamic price updates, also making use of algorithms.

" In the period under review - we read - the offers of the parties on the routes concerned, despite the presence of high price peaks on some of these, showed a certain variability ".

Therefore, there is no collusion between the companies, but the Authority still wants to see things clearly: this is why last November it launched a fact-finding investigation (which also concerns flights to Sardinia) to delve deeper into some aspects linked to algorithms and their use in defining of the companies' offers.
