The mayors of the small Sardinian municipalities in the trenches against the expensive bills.

The latest is Francesco Caggiari, mayor of Bortigali : he has ordered that public lighting will be guaranteed only on the roads with the greatest traffic . In one area of the town the street lamps will remain off while in the industrial area the light points will be active alternately: two off and one on in the middle.

"All this - explains the mayor in a notice to citizens - to keep the municipal budget intact and avoid a dangerous deficit". Contributions to cover the high bills have also arrived. But according to Caggiari they are not enough: drastic cuts and blackouts are needed.

Francesco Usai , mayor of Ussassai , 480 inhabitants, the smallest town in the Barbagia di Seùlo, jokes about it.

"Given the exorbitant cost of diesel and petrol for the wheat harvest - we read in an ironic post on social media - considering that primitive man did this: 1) we do not use diesel and petrol for combine harvesters, etc. 2) we do not consume cooking gas 3) we do not light fires and / or consume wood. So: we eat the wheat at the level of the 'grain' dried in the sun !! For other determinations ... let's see ".

From small towns to big cities there is a chorus of grievances after the August "blow" on electricity bills. In Oristano it went from 181 thousand euros spent in that month in 2021 to 466 thousand paid a few days ago. In Cagliari the bill has tripled, rising from 249 thousand to 611 thousand, in Sassari from 180 thousand to 312 thousand.
