The cuts to school autonomy, with 40 institutions at risk of closure on the island, continue to cause concern in Sardinia.

The Sardinian senator of the Democratic Party Marco Meloni presented an urgent question to the Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara.

«With the reform of the school network introduced by the budget law there will be an enormous concentration of offices under a single management – writes Meloni -. Not only will this inevitably make it more difficult for school principals and directors to carry out their role, but it will gradually lead to the closure of the complexes, causing serious damage to the educational offer and compressing the right to study of children ».

«The island – he continues – ranks last in Europe for early school leaving and in Italy it is the penultimate region for young graduates. Add to this the worrying episodes of depopulation that in the coming decades will see entire towns disappear: it is clear that there would be a need for an expansion, while this is a real downsizing that will have very serious effects in Sardinia".

Meloni asks Minister Valditara " why the demographic decline has been used as a criterion for reducing autonomy and not instead as a basis for rethinking teaching models , imagining smaller venues, experimenting at the same time with a quality educational offer and strategies to encourage housing in inland areas.

And again " how does it intend to ensure that Sardinian children can enjoy the right to study fully and in the same way as their peers in other regions - adds the senator dem - also considering that it is the task of the Republic to remove the disadvantages deriving from the condition of insularity, such as provided for by the new article 119 of the Constitution".
