Last year alone he blew out twenty candles . But after the great goal, the stop soon came: the Cuncambias popular culture festival will not take place this year . Not a goodbye, but – perhaps – just a goodbye. And the explanations arrive, without filters, in an open letter from the organizers to their "friends", entrusted to the network. Between the lines, in addition to the displeasure, there is also the discontent of the group which accuses the Municipality of San Sperate of never having "properly supported our project, with negligible, almost offensive economic contributions ".

The reasons behind the change of direction «are multiple. The most diplomatic way to tell you why would be to say that after having made our enthusiasm, our skills and our work available to everyone, we feel the need to stop a bit , to reflect on what has been and what will be. But this is only partially true." The underlying issue, however, the spark that set off the powder keg, would be far from the little energy left or the stimuli to be found. What failed - as already anticipated - was the aid from the institutions that «are responsible for interacting, supporting and financing projects like ours – states the notice –, Regions, Provinces (when they had a role) and, above all, the Municipality. Our municipality, that of San Sperate."

«A Municipality which, in our opinion, has never properly supported Cuncambias , has never really believed in an open, inclusive and rich project like ours: from Vinicio Capossela to Stefano Benni, we remember, passing through the friend Michela Murgia, many times with us, up to artists such as Teresa De Sio, Gianmaria Testa, Paolo Nani or Marco Baliani, for a total of hundreds of appointments in twenty years; in practice, the state of the art of the island's current cultural production. Even more, a Festival project that is very attentive to the needs of the country, in so many ways that it would make no sense to list them. We would like to say that Cuncambias has grown with the country, but we feel that, if this was the case in the past, in some ways, it is no longer the case today."

In closing, a question for all those who are very fond of the Festival: «We ask ourselves, and we ask you: now that the Cuncambias experience is over, after other important cultural experiences in the country have already suspended or moved their activities, what remains of the cultural vocation , popular and community of San Sperate? Among the comments on the post, many have already expressed their displeasure. “Everyone will miss him so much, especially the children,” writes one user. "How sad... it was an appointment that I looked forward to with great anticipation and affection every year and which has never disappointed me", confesses another follower. And the messages pour in, all with the same mood.
