Almost 9 billion euros, precisely 8.8, or 95 million per day . It is the amount of damage suffered by Italian foreign trade between November 2023 and January 2024 due to the crisis in the Red Sea . And the impact of what is happening in the Middle East risks being very serious also for Sardinia's exports, from which goods transported by sea to other destinations in the world come for 740 million euros .

The data - alarming - was provided to UnioneSarda.it by Confartigianato , which in a report also underlines how our country is suffering overall - due to the tensions triggered by the attacks of the Yemeni Houthi rebels on Western commercial ships, to which the USA and Great Britain are responding with targeted raids - an "impact" of 35 million euros per day on exports and 60 million euros for missed supplies.

The highest value of products transported through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea is in Lombardy, 12.9 billion euros, then Emilia-Romagna (9.4), Veneto (5.7), Tuscany (4, 7), Piedmont (4.2), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (2). Sardinia, on the other hand, is as mentioned "exposed" for almost 750 million.

The sectors most affected, the report highlights, are fashion, food, metal products and wood, but the machinery and plant engineering sector is also feeling heavy repercussions.

«In light of what is happening – warns the president of Confartigianato Imprese Marco Granelli – there is a risk of serious consequences for Italian economic growth».
