Intermittent openings and shutters raised only on weekends, collections that can amount to as little as six euros in a whole day of work and losses up to 70%.

These are the numbers that outline the picture of the current situation of public establishments, from bars to restaurants, in the Cagliari area during the fourth wave of Covid-19.

The alarm comes from Fipe Confcommercio Sardegna.

"In this phase we feel forgotten", explained President Emanuele Frongia, "the situation is catastrophic, the data tell us. The state cannot stand by and watch. We are experiencing a situation similar to that of the first lockdown, when we were scared and we didn't know what to do ".

According to the president of the association of traders, we are heading towards economic disaster: "90% of us are in debt and 80% are small, very small businesses that are often family-run, our companies find themselves paying rents without the productive force to bear these expenses, we continue to pay our collaborators and we are not allowed to take advantage of the redundancy fund ".

Among the critical issues reported, there are also those relating to the costs of goods and utilities: "We are talking about an increase of 10 and 60 percent respectively," he added.

Fipe Confcommercio Sardegna therefore addressed an appeal to politics: "Today we are addressing the State, not only the Region. The government must take strong action to support our work. In Germany, for example, VAT has been reduced. We could also completely eliminate the cost of labor. The hypotheses are many, but we cannot go forward in this way, at this rate our future is citizenship income ".
