The economic aid arranged by the national government to cope with the crisis linked to Covid-19 saved the incomes of Sardinian workers.

This is confirmed by the results of an analysis carried out by the Caf di Cia Agricoltori Italiani on the island, which examined the data of the 730/2021 models processed in the Confederation's tax assistance counters.

To carry out the study, a sample of 10 thousand tax returns was taken into consideration.

The results show that in 2020 the employment income of Sardinians grew by an average of 0.70%, against a national average of 0.30%.

The most significant increase was recorded in the province of Nuoro (2%), the lowest in the province of Sassari (0.20%).

Employees in the private sector, on the other hand, had a more contained growth in income, while for retirees the increase was in line with that of previous years.

Among all categories of workers, public sector employees have had the greatest percentage increase in their earnings.

The analysis of the 730s highlighted other consequences of the epidemic on the lives of Sardinians: in fact, expenses for medical services, university courses, interest expense on mortgages, property rentals and sports activities decreased.

"The national government guarantees adopted to deal with the pandemic will soon end, so it is clear that politics must implement choices and actions that allow for an overall rebalancing of workers' conditions, using all available data, starting from those emerged from the tax returns for the current year ”, explained the regional director of Cia Agricoltori Sardegna, Alessandro Vacca.

"The average income in Italy amounts to about 26 thousand euros per year, but the Sardinian income figures are well below these amounts; recent Istat data on depopulation confirm the need for urgent interventions to support the island's economy, through a tax reform that takes into account the socio-economic conditions existing in the Italian territory, with particular regard to the most delicate situations and with the greatest need for support, such as those of Sardinia. There is also the need to intervene to lower the cost of labor, in order to create employment and guarantee the permanence and indispensable protection of the Sardinian territory. The Region of Sardinia must do its part with targeted actions aimed at relaunching development and employment policies, to improve the living conditions of Sardinians, guaranteeing future and prospects for our Isola, ”he added.
