"We have always said that the pandemic, in addition to the preponderant health reasons, would also bring financial consequences for local administrations. The interventions implemented by the government have been important, but partial and do not cover all the actions that the Municipalities have put in place to assist people ".

This was stated by the president of Anci Sardegna, Emiliano Deiana, commenting on the alarm launched by the EU Committee of the Regions, who spoke of a 22.8 billion hole in the coffers of Italian local authorities left by the coronavirus epidemic.

"We lived a time, at the beginning of the pandemic wave, when it was not easy to find masks and personal protective equipment or they were sold at exorbitant prices - he explained -. These expenses, together with those of a social, health and transport has never been completely recast: both in the cities and in the smaller municipalities ".

"Without considering the Regions such as Sardinia - he concluded -, which bear the entire health expenditure and which should be supported more vigorously by the Government and the EU at least for the additional expenses caused by the pandemic".
