Sardinian farmers are still waiting for compensation for the damage caused by the action of the grasshoppers but what is most important to the category is the receipt of a real containment plan.

"For months we have been soliciting, without result, the regional councilor for the environment", says Ignazio cirronis, regional president of Copagri: "We have reason to believe that it does not exist".

"We quickly forgot the damage caused by their invasion in Nuorese - adds Cirronis - on about 30,000 hectares of a dozen municipalities. Starting from Ottana and its surroundings, it quickly affected Olzai and Sarule upstream, reaching the gates of Macomer ".

"The grasshoppers, with their voracity, and as already seen in 2019, quickly destroy pastures, meadows-grazing, corn crops, vegetables - underlines Pietro Tandeddu, regional director of Copagri - The growers await compensation for damages but are more interested, as we have repeatedly underlined, in a preventive action that prevents their reproduction. They all agree that working the uncultivated land can prevent the proliferation of larvae but there are also forms of struggle based on the spread of their enemy beetles. However, we rely on experts to identify the best techniques. It is certain that plowing must be carried out in the autumn-winter period, before the eggs hatch. in the omnibus law which has not yet been published ".
