From tourism to construction, the search for skilled workers is increasingly difficult. Right now that both sectors are recovering, driven by building bonuses and dozens of low cost flights.

"There is a lack of site managers and other specialized figures - says Francesco Porcu, regional secretary of Cna - the national craft confederation - a problem that risks holding back companies at a crucial moment: after a slowdown in activities that lasted ten years, the sector is running at full speed again ”.

From the point of view of the search for workers, supply and demand have never been so far. The obstacle in this case is not the citizenship income, which is often referred to as a double-edged sword: “These are workers with a certain level of employment and contracts, I don't think they can be influenced by subsidies. If anything, there is another aspect: many Sardinian professionals have been hired by companies from other regions and are no longer on the market. Because we must not forget that 80% of contracts from 5 million upwards are awarded to outside companies ”, says Porcu.

Competition from other regions is also being felt between hotels and restaurants. Trentino and Emilia Romagna are a safe haven for many Sardinian seasonal workers, fleeing from inadequate salaries and working conditions that are often beyond limits.

"LOW PAYS" - Indecent offers, increasingly narrow contracts, flight with no return to other sectors in the two years of the pandemic, difficulties in matching job demand and supply. According to the trade unions, these are, in general, the reasons why tourism entrepreneurs on the island struggle not a little to find staff for the season that is about to inaugurate, and little or nothing would affect the poor attitude of sacrifice of today's young people or the "comfortable" citizenship income that would entice you to stay at home .

Nella Milazzo, Filcams regional secretary, underlines that “according to the latest data from the Labor Inspectorate, of all the reported cases of anomalies and irregularities, 73% concern the hospitality and catering sector. They are data, which correspond to direct testimony from the 'victims' ". “Of course - he adds - there are also fair and virtuous companies in Sardinia, but maybe there were more. We receive dozens and dozens of reports from 'seasonal' workers who denounce situations beyond the limits of exploitation. To say, wages of 700/800 euros for an effective commitment of up to twelve hours a day and no rest ".
