The "Sport and human rights" award, promoted by Amnesty International Italia and Sport4Society, now in its sixth edition, was awarded this year to Claudio Ranieri, the Cagliari coach who announced his farewell to the rossoblù clubs at the end of the season .

The award ceremony took place today in Ravenna, during the 39th general assembly of Amnesty International Italia, in the presence of Riccardo Cucchi, president of the award, Riccardo Noury, spokesperson of Amnesty International Italia, Luca Musumeci, president of Sport4Society, and with the participation by Sara Gama, Italian footballer and sports manager, captain of Juventus, who presented the award to the Roman coach.

This is the motivation for the award, read by Riccardo Cucchi: «Emblem of a football in which ethics, values and the fight against racism take on the same value as the result on the field, Claudio Ranieri throughout his career has spent his commitment to teaching fans, footballers and the entire world of sport that respect is as important as a victory. A lesson in sporting culture and humanity."

«I thank you for this award and for the applause, which I should give you every day for the time you dedicate to this noble project - commented Ranieri -. I simply do what my parents taught me: respect anyone and everyone. Thanks to Amnesty International Italia for its commitment and for giving me this award, even though we should be the ones rewarding you. I believe that football is an important advertising vehicle and that it must educate future generations about exciting and fair competition. We hope that one day we can get to this, leaving racism and inequalities aside."
