In more than one in three Italian families (34%) it is the grandparents who save the household budget put at risk by inflation which affects the shopping cart directly with financial help and in more than half of the families the older relatives are a valid help for looking after children instead of babysitters or after-school care. Not to mention the valuable hand that grandparents in our country also give at a working and professional level.

This is what emerges from an online survey carried out by Coldiretti on the occasion of Grandparents' Day and the Coldiretti Seniors' Assembly.

«In Italy the Festival – underlines Coldiretti – concerns a total of around 12 million people and was established by law in 2005 and today represents a recognition of the role of the elderly in supporting families, also in consideration of the difficulties».

According to the survey, among Italians who benefit from the presence of a pensioner at home, over half (57%) see them as a valid help in looking after their children, perhaps taking them to school and following them even when they return home. , while 35% declare that grandparents are a determining factor in contributing to the family income."

«But there is also a small percentage of 8% – adds Coldiretti – who find help from their grandparents at work level, especially for those who have a business, from agriculture to craftsmanship, up to commerce, and can thus benefit from the experience accumulated by those who are now retired".
