One thousand two hundred companies including bars, restaurants and clubs, which employ 3,300 people.

This is the snapshot of the catering businesses active in Cagliari (almost 450 in the historic centre, 686 in the rest of the city for a total of 1,124 businesses) according to the report “Public establishments and tourism. The city and the tourism role of businesses in 2023” elaborated by Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna and presented during a conference in the capital.

The data shows that in the city 50 percent of entrepreneurs in the sector are women, that 64 percent are under 40 and 3 percent are foreigners. The total turnover amounts to 265 million euros, the added value, however, to 130 million.

The president of Confcommercio Sud Sardegna, Alberto Bertolotti , who opened the proceedings, underlined the role of companies in the city: «I am confident that Cagliari and its entire system, therefore production activities and administrations, are aimed at raising the bar of quality, I have the dream that our regional capital could become the southern Mediterranean principality of Monaco». "Often our role within the community is not recognized - said the president of Fipe Confcommercio Sud Sardegna, Emanuele Frongia - our goal is in fact to define a fixed stage to understand what our future is in the city, what our function social, also taking into account the economic vitality that our activities can bring with the promotion of food and wine in the area and the maintenance of employment».

Also at the conference was the regional president of Federalberghi, Paolo Manca , according to whom "the summer season looks positive with numbers higher than 2019, therefore at the regional level there should be over 15 million presences".
