Patrick Cappai's masterpiece. The boxer from Quartu Sant'Elena is the new Youth world featherweight champion : during the night, in Cagliari, he takes the Wbc belt, the most prestigious acronym in the world of boxing . A very fast start wasn't enough for the Nicaraguan Darwing Martinez (who arrived at the last moment after the withdrawal of the first challenger designated by the French WBC Jeremy Bernardin who was arrested while he was at the Paris airport and trying to reach Sardinia). He finished the match leaning on the ropes , tired, almost counting the moments remaining until the end of the eighth and final round (there should have been ten but the WBC decided for 8 because the Nicaraguan was "called" just 36 hours before the match) . The Nicaraguan finished on his feet, but the judges gave him no chance. Cappai wins with a unanimous verdict.

«The match went as we thought, there was a moment in which I took two blows, luckily not strong ones, and for this reason I was immediately called back to the corner, but I managed to control the whole match well. I'm very happy – says the Quartese – This is just a starting point."

THE MEETING - In the ring of the PalaPirastu in Cagliari, father Fabrizio's pupil confirms his extraordinary technique and impresses the many fans who have come to support him with a great personality . Cappai, set in right guard, starts well with the left jab. Martinez still seems confident and powerful. These are sensations inherited only from the first exchanges. In the third round the first flare-up, with a left from Cappai that shakes the Nicaraguan who, put on the alert, spends the following rounds looking for "body to body".

A strategy that is useless : for him other slips in all the rounds, thanks to Cappai's boxing, very elegant and precise, made up of fast and precise punches, which gives no escape. Martinez shows signs of recovery in the last shot, but the greatness of the new WBC Youth world champion is immense . In addition to the verdict, this is also certified by that final embrace with father Fabrizio in tears (of joy).

SOTTOCLOU - The subclous are also beautiful. Worth mentioning is yet another convincing performance by Nicola Mancosu (trained by Omar Loi) and Stefano Lai (led by the very talented Paolo Carta, the master who has been teaching boxing at AP Sardinia for many years and building champions). Simone Pippia's match was very fast : the super middleweight from Oristano needed just one round to take the measure of the Paraguayan Enrique Caceres, then 30 seconds after the start of the second round he hit a powerful and precise right hand that knocked out his opponent.
