"The profuse commitment in the function of public administrator, the extraordinary activity of tireless cultural promotion of the city and the protection of the environment of its territory": these are the reasons that accompanied the delivery to Porto Torres, from the municipal administration of Porto Torres , of the civic merit to the memory of Giancarlo Pinna.

The initiative during the ceremony organized by the Turritano Polyphonic Choir, of which Pinna was president and cantor in more than a thousand concerts. The family received a commemorative plaque in the "Gonario di Torres" conference room, a few steps from the Basilica of San Gavino, a place of worship at the hands of the President of the City Council, Franco Satta, and the Councilor for Culture, Maria Bastiana Cocco. which for Giancarlo Pinna has always been a spiritual and cultural point of reference.

The event strongly desired by the Turritan Polyphonic Choir took place on the occasion of the celebrations for the "dies natalis" of the Turritani Saints Martyrs.

To trace the profile of Giancarlo Pinna, the association made use of the contribution of two personalities who shared his human, political and cultural path: the former mayor of Porto Torres, Eugenio Cossu, and the President of the Basilica di San Gavino, the epigraphist Giuseppe Piras.

"During his life - recalled Piras - Giancarlo was able to throw many seeds which then sprouted, creating local associations and businesses such as the Turris Bisleonis cooperative which enhanced the Basilica of San Gavino, born from his own idea and which still bears the name he assigned it today ”.

“Only four days separated us by birth. With him and with other friends who unfortunately are no longer here - recalled Eugenio Cossu - we shared the best years. Our 'playground' was the ancient city of Turris Libisonis. As a child I had noticed the curiosity, the desire to discover and his passion for culture. Then at twenty-one we ran for the City Council, I in the PCI, he in the DC. And Giancarlo's interventions in the Council were of an extraordinary level. He was able to speak for hours about culture, art, music to affirm his ideas, with genius and using an excellent oratory art. We young people of that time were able to dialogue with ministers, undersecretaries, regional councilors. It was in those years that the Turrian Cultural Center was born: there was a real taste for culture. The Turritano Polyphonic Choir owes a lot to its Maestro, Don Antonio Sanna, but also to the intelligence of the first choristers such as Giancarlo Pinna. This combination has allowed the training to be recognized internationally ”.

In closing, Giancarlo Pinna's sisters read a sentence he wrote shortly before his disappearance: "When I die I would like an inscription on the place of my burial: here are the remains of Giancarlo who desperately tried to be a man. And only I would like to be a man, that being a man, without other attributes, is enough for me ". A thought for Giancarlo Pinna was also addressed by the protagonists of the concert that took place on Saturday evening in the Basilica of San Gavino, with which the celebrations for the "dies natalis" of the Turritani Saints Martyrs began.
