Conductor Donato Renzetti returns to the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari with two evenings that will inaugurate the 2026 concert season. On Friday, January 9th at 8:00 pm and Saturday, January 10th at 7:00 pm , Renzetti , who has not appeared at the Teatro Lirico since 2023, will lead the orchestra and chorus in a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony . The show will last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes in total and will include no intermission .
The musical program , entirely dedicated to Ludwig van Beethoven, includes the performance of one of the most extraordinary masterpieces in the history of music: the Ninth Symphony in D minor for soloists, choir and orchestra op. 125 , a great symphonic-choral piece, composed between 1822 and 1824. In the fourth movement ( Finale ) we will hear “ Ode to Joy ” on a text by Friedrich von Schiller , through which the brilliant German composer invites everyone to universal brotherhood.
The soloists for the two evenings will be: Lucrezia Drei (soprano), Sara Mingardo (contralto), Giulio Pelligra (tenor), and Adolfo Corrado (bass). The choirmaster is Massimo Fiocchi Malaspina (temporarily replacing Giovanni Andreoli).
The last three performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Cagliari date back to December 2023 under the direction of Jaume Santonja, January 2021 under the direction of Fabrizio Maria Carminati (performed live on television due to Covid-19 restrictions), and January 2016 under the direction of Gérard Korsten.
