Today was a gala day at the Cagliari Tennis Club, where the main draw of the Fip Platinum Sardinia began in the morning, an international padel tournament that brings several of the best players in the world to the capital, from Federico Chingotto to Maxi Sánchez via Tamara Icardo and María Virginia Riera. After two days dedicated to the qualifiers (which started on Sunday morning), the first round started at 10: twenty-eight couples in the men's and the same number in the women's competition will participate in the main draw. And among the women, an immediate success for the Italian Carolina Orsi, one of the most awaited Italian players: in her debut at the tournament, together with Carla Mesa Salazar, she beat Borrero-Sharifova 6-3 6-3 in just over an hour entering the round of 16. For the whole week free entry to Monte Urpinu, until the finals on Sunday. Also in the morning was the press conference, in the presence of the tourism councilor Gianni Chessa, the mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu, the Fitp president Angelo Binaghi and the Fip president Luigi Carraro.

The presentation. «Now here is "The house of the shovel", we are happy to be able to host this tournament which once again confirms the capabilities of Cagliari, the Region and the Tennis Club: the city has not only entered the quadrilateral of Italian tennis and padel with Rome, Milan and Turin, but it has also become a point of reference at an international level", Truzzu's greeting. «This is the first time I have participated in the presentation of an event at the Tennis Club Cagliari without organizing it, it will allow me to enjoy it», states Binaghi with satisfaction. «Precisely on the occasion of the finals two years ago, at the PalaPirastu, we began to theorize the idea of a new sports hall for Cagliari, which, thanks to the mayor and councilor Chessa, will soon become a reality. And I would like to underline that this is among the three most important padel tournaments organized in Italy, after Rome and Milan: a position to be proud of." For international padel it is the return to Cagliari after the 2020 and 2021 events: «I want to say thanks to mayor Truzzu, to the Region from president Solinas to councilor Chessa, to Fitp and to the Tennis Club Cagliari, which is our home here and welcomed us in an extraordinary way", Carraro's thanks. «From this beautiful island and city this sport exploded in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic: padel is growing more and more and is a great opportunity to promote Sardinia all year round, with a great economic return», added the councilor Chessa.
