The first step has been taken towards the establishment of a real underground network of the "Municipalities that are friends of the family". The deputy mayor of the metropolitan city of Cagliari, Roberto Mura, participated in the meeting that took place via videoconference; Giovanni Deiana, the director of the Family Policy Service of the Sardinia Region, and representatives of the local administrations, including Alghero, which is the first Sardinian municipality to be a "friend of the family".

Last year it was Cagliari that joined, as the first Italian metropolitan city, the network led by the Autonomous Province of Trento with the aim of involving all 17 Municipalities: the primary objective is to put families and their needs at the center of development. social and economic of the territory, with the coordination of the Metropolitan City.

"I felt great enthusiasm from the administrators in undertaking this path - said Mura - For too long family policies have been considered only and exclusively of support and subsistence, but now it is necessary to change the paradigm and put families at the center of the social and economic development process ". “Our land in particular - added the deputy mayor - is experiencing an unprecedented demographic crisis and therefore we need a cultural revolution that favors the central role of the family within our communities, with system policies and a decades-long perspective. By joining the network of 'Common friends of the family' we officially enter a virtuous circle from which to draw to implement specific policies in support of the family ”.

Among the actions implemented by the “Family” certified Municipalities there are municipal family plans, museums, restaurants and family-friendly hotels, tariff policies that take into account family burdens and family-work reconciliation policies.
