Cagliari: the final farewell to Claudio Velluti, one of the greatest legends of Sardinian sport
The former Olimpia Milano and Brill basketball player died at the age of 85, an emotional crowd took part in the funeral
A moving and heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest legends of Sardinian sport. This afternoon Cagliari paid its final farewell to Claudio Velluti , former basketball player for Olimpia Milano and Brill (as well as head of orthopedics at the University Clinic of Cagliari), who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 85.
An emotional crowd attended the funeral, which was held in the Basilica of Bonaria. Present in the front row were his wife Lella, his sons Marco and Simone and his very young grandchildren, consoled by the affectionate embrace of the city.
Many personalities were present: among others the president of the city council Edoardo Tocco, the number one of the Sardinian Federbasket Tore Serra (also a former teammate) and the president of the regional CONI Bruno Perra. Then the colleagues of a lifetime. Both in the lane and on the basketball court: among these Ezio Lotti, Beppe Muscas, Ermanno Iaci and Sandro Spinetti, who brought the greetings of the Italian Athletes Association.
