A musical journey through American sounds and jazz rhythms for the evenings of Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October at the Carmen Melis Theatre, where the fourth event of the “Rotte sonore” series, organised by the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, took place.
Taking the Cagliari podium for the first time will be American conductor Garrett Keast, originally from Houston, who led the Teatro Lirico Orchestra with energy and precision in the Stars and Stripes Spirit concert.
The program features some of the most representative masterpieces of twentieth-century American music : from the famous Fanfare for a Common Man and the Suite from the ballet Billy the Kid by Aaron Copland, to the sparkling Three Dance Episodes from On the Town by Leonard Bernstein, up to the overwhelming symphony Porgy and Bess: Symphonic Pictures by George Gershwin, a perfect synthesis of jazz, musical and classical music.
The event confirms the identity of the "Rotte sonore" series, conceived as a bridge between different musical worlds, with seven concerts spanning styles and atmospheres, from American musicals to European opera, previewing the 2025-2026 opera and dance seasons of the Teatro Lirico.
Rotte sonore takes place in a more intimate setting than the main theater : the Teatro Carmen Melis, with its intimate auditorium, offered a close-up and engaging experience, appreciated by a diverse audience, from curious young people to discerning season ticket holders. Each concert in the series lasts approximately an hour and takes place without an intermission.
The protagonists of the festival, scheduled from September to November , are the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Lirico, the latter directed by Giovanni Andreoli and performing in two of the seven scheduled concerts.
