Cagliari won 8-0 in a friendly at the "Borucca" stadium in Buddusò against the local team, newly promoted to the Eccellenza league. The Rossoblù, without their internationals , showcased Belotti, who broke the deadlock after 15 minutes. Felici and Gaetano also played well.
Cagliari took the field with Ciocci; Di Pardo, Zé Pedro, Luperto, Marini; Cavuoti, Mazzitelli, Gaetano; Esposito, Belotti, Felici . The most cheered by the fans when the lineups were announced was Belotti, who took just over a minute to get his first chance: fed a header by Gaetano, he controlled the ball in the box and fired over with his right foot. In the 10th minute, another of the latest signings to start, Zé Pedro, also made his mark with a header over the bar following a corner. Meanwhile, in the 11th minute, referee Isu stopped play for a minute of applause from the crowd in tribute to Gigi Riva.
Belotti scored the opening goal in the 16th minute: Gaetano's free kick, designed to free the newly arrived striker, was easily controlled and placed in front of the keeper. But Felici doubled the lead in the 28th minute with a spectacular curling right-footer from the edge of the box after cutting inside from the left . Gaetano then nearly made it three in the 33rd minute, with a low free kick from a similar position that was saved for a corner by goalkeeper Faralli.
The second half began with ten equal elevenths for Cagliari: the only substitution was Juan Rodríguez making his debut for Luperto. In the 51st minute, Cavuoti fired a shot from the edge of the box, but Mario Canu dived and saved. Belotti's tenacious move earned him the penalty to make it 0-3: he stole the ball from Giovanni Canu on the byline and ran into the penalty area, where he was fouled by Taras. Esposito scored from the spot, wrong-footing the goalkeeper in the 56th minute. Substitutions followed: Prati for Mazzitelli, Borrelli for Esposito, Adopo for Cavuoti, and Rog for Belotti. As soon as play resumed, Felici broke away down the left, well-placed by Gaetano, passed to the center, and Borrelli himself, with his first touch, made it 0-4 from close range in the 58th minute . And a minute later, he also hit the crossbar.
Cagliari scored their fifth goal on the hour mark, again through Gaetano (a key player) who back-heeled Adopo into action, passing to Felici, who cut in on the left for the winner. In the 62nd minute, again from the same flank, young Matteo Amos Marini made it 0-6 with a powerful left-footed strike, again from Felici . He then made way for another Primavera player, Franke.
Mendy replaced Felici in the final minutes, with Tronci replacing Di Pardo, and Sulev replacing Gaetano. Mario Canu produced a miracle save in the 87th minute from one of the many youngsters, Mendy. But a minute later, the Primavera player, born in 2007, was freed in the penalty area, controlled the ball and fired home to make it 0-7 . In the 90th minute, a penalty was awarded for a foul on Borrelli, and the striker scored a brace. Cagliari were without Michael Folorunsho (workload management), Leonardo Pavoletti, Nicola Pintus, and Boris Radunović, who continued their individual training schedules.
