A journey suspended between dreams, fear, and adolescence. The Summer of the Blue Comets, the new illustrated novel by Piergiorgio Pulixi, will have its national premiere on Tuesday, October 7th at 6:30 PM at the Lazzaretto in Cagliari. The artwork is by renowned illustrator Daniele Serra and it is published by Camena Edizioni.

The work, suspended between reality and the supernatural, recounts the summer that marks the passage into adulthood of protagonist Michele Rivalta, a modern-day Orpheus capable of seeing beyond death. A gift that also becomes a curse for those who, like him, are still searching for themselves amid the anxieties of adolescence. A story that spans genres and atmospheres: from noir to psychological thriller, from coming-of-age novel to paranormal drama.

Piergiorgio Pulixi, winner of the 2019 Scerbanenco Prize , explains that he wanted to experiment with a story inspired by coming-of-age stories and children's fiction, drawing on memories of his own youth: "For me, history has become a place and time for the soul. I wanted to tell the story of a time when everything changes: the body, the perception of self, the relationship with life. Those adolescent fears are amplified in the novel."

Giving visual form to this suspended world is Daniele Serra, an internationally renowned Sardinian illustrator , known for his collaborations with Stephen King, Clive Barker, Joe R. Lansdale and for having created the tables of Dylan Dog.

His watercolors accompany the narrative with images laden with gothic influences and atmospheres that blend dream and nightmare. "It didn't take long for us to connect with Daniele," Pulixi says. "His dark sensibility fits perfectly with the novel's atmosphere."

The presentation, organized by Entula in collaboration with the Cagliari Art Academy and Camena Edizioni, will feature both authors. The book will be available in a standard edition and a variant version, with a cover personalized by Daniele Serra.
