Tomorrow, Friday 19 January, at 5.00 pm, in the conference room of the State Archives of Cagliari, the book "Voices of Italian prisoners of the First World War" will be presented, edited by Serenella Baggio, published by the Accademia della Crusca .

Thanks to the phonographic recordings of Italian prisoners made in the Austrian prison camps of the First World War, preserved by the Phonographic Archive of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, it was possible to "photograph" the state of some variants of Sardinian spoken over more than a century does. The transcription and linguistic commentary of the recordings offer readers an authentic context, fundamental for understanding, albeit in limited areas, linguistic development and diversity.

The work is enriched by the biographies of the soldiers, also thanks to the consultation of the matriculation documentation of the Military District of Cagliari, preserved in the State Archives. In addition to the editor of the volume, speakers include the director of the State Archives of Cagliari, Enrico Trogu, the researcher from the University of Turin Daniela Mereu, the professor of Glottology and Linguistics Nicoletta Puddu and the historian Marco Pignottii of the University of Cagliari.
