For the second year in two Serie A seasons, the Cagliari Women's five-a-side football team has reached the playoffs for the Scudetto. This afternoon, on the eve of the quarterfinal second leg against CMB (scheduled for tomorrow at 7:00 PM), the girls coached by Moreno Giorgi received a special visit from president Tommaso Giulini, forward Sebastiano Esposito, and Costanza Musso, CEO of the Grendi Group, the team's Main Partner.
The meeting took place after the final training session before departing for Basilicata, where Cagliari will play in Salandra. "You're doing something great," Giulini told the girls and the coaching staff . "Reaching the playoffs for the second consecutive year means adding further value to a project born two years ago, one in which the club, along with the president of Mediterranea Calcio a Futsal, Corrado Melis, strongly believed in to further their commitment to women's sports. Every day, in every official match and in training, you have shown character, passion, dedication, and quality of work—the right spirit to face the next challenge."
Esposito, the Rossoblu's top scorer in Serie A with six goals, will be playing Sunday evening's Cagliari-Torino match, as the club looks to secure direct survival. The striker is a fan of futsal: "It's a sport I've always appreciated and enjoy watching because it involves so much technique," he reveals. "Even today, watching training was fun and interesting. I wasn't familiar with your team before arriving in Sardinia, and I have to say that all the ingredients are there to continue improving. Best of luck for Saturday's match and for the future."
In the first leg, played last Sunday at the PalaConi, Cagliari lost 1-4 to CMB, who finished first in the regular season . Bolivian Cokito Gálvez scored for the Rossoblù. "The commitment I see moves me," said Costanza Musso. "You are extraordinary in the way you continually raise the bar and demonstrate your potential against every opponent, a spirit that also unites the youth teams and is emblematic of what we wanted to launch in 2024. Keep up the good work, towards the next challenges we will face together."
The Cagliari Women's project began in the summer of 2024, following the Mediterranea's promotion to Serie A the previous season. In this championship, the rossoblù earned 23 points and secured relegation well ahead of schedule, before securing a second-round playoff spot . The team is composed of goalkeepers Chiara Abraini, Chloe Canu, Christina Carboni Tonga, and Giulia Ricottini, and outfield players Simona Aresu, Rebecca Cerbone, Jasmin Michela Cossu, Chiara Dessì, Martina Erriu, Anita Furno, Cokito Gálvez, Filipa Mendes, Sveva Sofia Orrù, Faustine Pellegry (top scorer with sixteen goals), Martina Porceddu, Federica Tronci, and Alice Virdis (captain at just 17, and already called up to the national team).
