After those of Cagliari and Alghero, Cagliari Calcio has inaugurated a new training center. It did so in Jerzu , where from this season the under 14 team plays the national championship of the category with a team made up of athletes from different areas of the island.

The work of the Cagliari Football Academy continues, the new project was presented in a conference hosted by the Ogliastra center. Mayor Carlo Lai emphasized that "the presence of Cagliari Calcio in Ogliastra is of crucial importance for the social and sporting development of the territory" .

"It is an honor - he underlined - to be the headquarters of this new and ambitious project, which brings with it multiple meanings. A complex adventure begins but we hope, and we are convinced, that it can lead many athletes to cultivate their dream, and in general local realities to improve thanks to the support of the structure of a professional club".

A "non-random" choice that of Jerzu, said the sports and organizational director of the youth sector of Cagliari Calcio, Pierluigi Carta : "A choice that matured after a process of several months, in which we assessed that there were the conditions to open a new strategic training center for the work that we want to continue to do throughout Sardinia. We intend to be very concrete, and we are demonstrating with facts, for example in Alghero but in general throughout the territory, that through a synergic work between Academy and scouting rossoblù we can monitor and cultivate the many talents that we have. Ogliastra is no exception, Jerzu will be the base of the Training Center but all centers in Ogliastra must be and feel involved , going beyond parochial logic and working together to grow collectively, giving the most deserving the opportunity to get to play in Cagliari and as high as possible in their sporting career".

The head of the Cagliari Football Academy and the Cagliari Calcio Basic Activity Mattia Belfiori illustrated the concepts, objectives and dictates of the project. «The Academy has a sporting and technical value, obviously, linked to the research and development of football talent. But first of all it has a social prerogative , because working seriously in a territory, improving together with local companies – whether or not they are affiliated with the Academy – means bringing something positive and lasting to the entire community».

Davide Carrus, now coach of the Cagliari Under 15s after having been a professional footballer at the highest levels coming from the rossoblù youth sector, also spoke. «The solidity of the work we do is based on continuity, day after day and year after year. Today I have the opportunity to lead the Under 15 group that I followed in previous years until reaching what is the entrance door to competitive activity: this allows us to monitor and interpret the growth of children who become teenagers, therefore understanding what they need and what needs to be done on a technical but also behavioral level, on and off the field. The game and the development of basic technique in training are fundamental, only in this way can we build the talents that will one day be able to tread the high-level stages. Even in Ogliastra this can be possible , by all working together».

The Cagliari Football Academy, founded in 2014, now has 40 affiliates in Sardinia (in addition to one in Milan and one in Salento) and is a fundamental piece for the club in the search for future champions. The objective is twofold, sporting and social.
