Gennaro Borrelli is the first new face of Cagliari 2025-2026, as well as the first purchase of the new sporting director Guido Angelozzi. Negotiations have been concluded for the central striker born in 2000, who was released from Brescia last June 30th due to the bankruptcy of the company of the former rossoblù president Massimo Cellino .

For Borrelli, Cagliari beat off a lot of competition, with several other Serie A clubs interested: the new rossoblù centre forward arrives in Sardinia with a four-year contract, in what will be his second experience in the top league . But in the first, with Angelozzi's Frosinone, he had collected just one appearance in a match against Napoli on 19 August 2023. Last season he scored 6 goals in 34 appearances in Serie B (plus one goal in two Coppa Italia matches).

With the deal now closed, the rossoblù are now defining the medical examination process. They will be held on Thursday: it is possible, but not guaranteed, that he will be able to arrive in Sardinia in time for the meeting at the Crai Sport Center in Assemini, also scheduled for the day after tomorrow . Cagliari will leave on Sunday for the retreat in Ponte di Legno, where they will remain until July 22. Borrelli is the first new acquisition, after the redemptions of Michel Adopo, Elia Caprile and Roberto Piccoli completed in mid-June.
