Agriculture, General Affairs, Healthcare, and more. Alessandra Todde is preparing to close the Progressives' case, perhaps as soon as today, with the appointment of Francesco Agus to the council in place of Gian Franco Satta. Meanwhile, a new issue emerges that threatens to unsettle tempers ahead of the general reshuffle, expected after the green light to the 2026 Budget. With the entry of Ittiri Mayor Antonio Sau into the Sardinian Assembly in place of Antonio Spano, the number of councilors from the left-wing Democratic Party, reporting to National Secretary Elly Schlein, rises to two (the other is Camilla Soru). This is enough for the Democratic Party to advance its request for a fourth councilor from the left during negotiations.
The crossroads
In fact, she had been asking for it before, but then it seemed she might give it up if she could gain significant control over the governance of healthcare agencies. Now—in this new phase where the specter of decline is no longer a threat—the Democratic Party wants everything it deems its due. If this is the turning point—the fourth slot and negotiations for a sensible distribution of key positions in healthcare—then the regional president will have an ally who will strongly support her throughout the legislature and who will sponsor her re-election in the next regional elections. Otherwise, a period of ups and downs would be in store. Therefore, the governor faces a choice: either listen to the parties already satisfied with the commissioners, or look further ahead.
Healthcare
The Democratic Party already controls the Budget departments (with Giuseppe Meloni, vice president of the Region), Industry (with Emanuele Cani), and the Environment (with Rosanna Laconi). The fourth could be Personnel, currently headed by Marielena Motzo, who some believe is leaving due to a less than ideal relationship with Uniti con Todde, her political force. Healthcare is certainly not a target, as it will remain within the Five Star Movement's orbit. Although, presumably, Armando Bartolazzi will no longer lead it after the budget. And it certainly won't be Desirè Manca: the idea of him moving from Labor has already been dismissed as "unrealistic" by the Regional President herself. In reality, she has someone else in mind, but the name is currently under wraps.
The Local Health Authorities
The review phase could coincide with the appointment of the general directors of the health authorities. "The selection process is still ongoing," explained Councilor Bartolazzi, and for this reason, the extraordinary commissioners whose terms expired today have been extended until the completion of these procedures, and in any case for no more than six months. So, January could be the right month. In this game, the Democratic Party (which has failed to nominate even one of the twelve commissioners of the eight local health authorities, the two local health authorities, Brotzu, and Areus) is aiming to extend its influence over at least four authorities, including the two most important, the local health authorities of Cagliari and Sassari.
