The Council is resuming the issue of compensation for the bovine dermatitis emergency. After the impasse stemming from a proposal by the Council that was not shared by the political parties , which delayed the approval of the budget adjustment until Monday, today the center-right and center-left consulted with agricultural associations at a group leaders' conference and reached an agreement: the provision (to be decided whether it will be a specific law or an amendment to the budget adjustment) will be streamlined and address farmers' requests.
"The agricultural and pastoral sector is Sardinia's primary sector. Faced with the challenges our farmers are facing, politicians intend to respond with a unified approach, and this morning this was the only voice brought to the table by all parties," said Assembly President Piero Comandini after the hearings. " On Monday, we will approve a swift and agile measure to ensure the resources needed to overcome this crisis reach rural communities as quickly as possible ."
The current doubts concern the actual amount of funding to address the movement ban and culls. Associations believe it could take as much as €50 million . Coldiretti president Battista Cualbu says: "We appreciate the unity of purpose and teamwork; we are interested in the clarity and timelines of the star regulations. We need to convey to the farmers how much will be repaid to their heads and when. This is essential. Just as we have asked that the call for aid for the Bluetongue be implemented immediately. It's unacceptable that the resources are available and that bureaucratic issues prevent this call for proposals. Farmers' time is not the time of politics."
What should the measure be? According to the president of Coldiretti, "there are problems with the de minimis system . In central Sardinia, this budget, which amounts to €50,000 over three years, has already been consumed by locust compensation, so it should be used as sparingly as possible to avoid short-circuiting."
