"In a free world you write what you think": this is the thought of the deputy and organization manager of the Brothers of Italy Giovanni Donzelli regarding the sentences against gays and minorities contained in the book by General Roberto Vannacci.

"If we established that the task of politics is to decide the goodness of ideas, it would be the end of democracy," he says in an interview.

Vannacci "as a soldier up to this affair has rendered a great service to the nation". But Defense Minister Crosetto "did very well" to initiate disciplinary action. «Representing a delicate ministry, he activated a mechanism envisaged by Army procedures. So that it could be verified whether what he did corresponds to military rules or not".

“If someone feels offended, there are bodies in charge. Who gave the Democratic Party the right to proclaim itself censor?» Donzelli asks. «I would not like to arrive at the principle that ideas are written only if the Democratic Party likes them», he continues, «But what do they want? Stoning in the square?», continues Donzelli, «or the burning of books that do not share? The gulag of ideas that do not correspond to the many currents with which they argue?”.
