Cross-border Biosphere Reserve North Sardinia-Bocche di Bonifacio, according to the UNESCO MAB Programme: an operational summit took place a few days ago in Bonifacio (Corsica), between the directors of the Bocche di Bonifacio Nature Reserve (Jean Michel Culioli ), of the La Maddalena National Park (Giulio Plastina), that of Asinara (Vittorio Gazale) and of the Capo Testa-Punta Falcone MPA (Yuri donno); and in April meeting with the mayors of Bonifacio, La Maddalena, Porto Torres and Santa Teresa Gallura.

The meeting followed the Protocol for the recognition of the MAB, signed last January 25th in La Maddalena. «We started to think, in Bonifacio, about the procedures to be put in place to propose the candidature of Sardinia-Corsican, Northern Sardinia and the Strait of Bonifacio, for Biosphere Reserve», states the director of the La Maddalena Park , Giulio Plastina.

«Corsica on the one hand and Sardinia on the other, through the structures of parks and reserves, coordinated by the Corsica Environment Office and others by the Department of Environmental Defense on the other, will simultaneously lead to their national governments in Paris and Rome, this instance." But what is important to underline to director Plastina is that the recognition of the cross-border MAB "will not bring further constraints".

The MAB, he explains, «will be a space of connections, cultural and historical exchanges, good practice activities, environmental education, sustainable development of the territory; therefore an exchange between schools, between operators, between experiences of monitoring, study, research and valorisation activities". And, once recognised, the MAB will be able to access UNESCO funding.
