The Cavour aircraft carrier in the harbor a few miles from the coast of Porto Torres, in the Gulf of Asinara. Tomorrow morning, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella will board the flagship of the Italian Navy and preside over the ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the sinking of the battleship "Roma", hit by German bombers on 9 September 1943 in the sea of the Gulf of Asinara, 16 miles from Porto Torres.

Many wanted to immortalize the moment of arrival this morning, to signify the importance of the event which brings to mind the tragedy in which 1393 sailors died including Admiral Carlo Bergamini, whose bodies rest in the Shrine at 1200 meters deep .

Gustavo Bellazzini, 102 years old in a few days, will also board the ship, the last of the 622 survivors of the sinking. At the time Bellazzini was 22 years old, he had just become a father and the Corazzata Roma represented his future. He was a stoker and got to safety driven by his strong survival spirit.
