«We have learned from the press that the conversion into law of the Milleproroghe decree , which would postpone again - at least until 31 December 2024 - the current beach concessions in Italy, was promulgated by the President of the Italian Republic with reservations, in particular in relation to of incompatibility with European law" . The EU Commission will now carefully evaluate the content and effects of the provision, which has not yet been notified, to assess the appropriate response".

This is what we learn from Brussels, where the extension of concessions on the Italian coasts risks becoming a reason for friction with the Italian government.

In fact, a spokesman for the EU executive underlined the need to guarantee "transparency and fair competition" in the sector, confirming that the Commission is closely following the matter and could soon take measures.

But the EU's concerns are not the only ones. Even President Mattarella, as is known, warned of the importance of respecting European directives , highlighting, with regard to the decree, that "it will be necessary to ensure the application of the competition rules and the protection of the rights of all the entrepreneurs involved, in accordance with Union law, as well as guaranteeing legal certainty and the uniform application of the law towards public and private entities operating in this field".

On the matter, Fabrizio Licordari, president of Assobalneari Federturismo Confindustria , specified: «The attentions of the Quirinale bring some inaccuracies into the arguments and for this reason we want to ask for a meeting with the President of the Republic to clarify some passages».
