During his three seasons in Milan, Gigi Datome won the Scudetto in 2022 and 2023, the Coppa Italia in 2021 and in 2022, the Super Cup in 2020, and became the first Italian scorer in the history of the EuroLeague".

The player from Olbia ended an amazing career that made him the best Sardinian basketball player ever. He also won the Allievi championship with Santa Croce Olbia, a championship in Siena, three national titles in Turkey where he lifted the Euroleague cup with Fenerbahce in 2017. He also played two seasons in the NBA, with the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics.

With the Italian national team he won bronze at the Under 18 and Under 20 European Championships, while with the senior selection he has almost 200 appearances and 1,668 points.

Datome stops playing but remains at Olimpia Milano as the press release suggests: "He has contributed to building not only a winning team but a culture, a way of being and doing that will be handed down to the new generations of Olimpia players. Gigi Datome will continue to be part of the Olimpia family, making use of the experience gained throughout his career and continuing to promote its values off the pitch as he did as a player."
