The UNESCO site of Su Nuraxi and the splendid archaeological sites of Barumini have never been so close to tourists and the large cities of Sardinia. The possibility is given by the new integrated rail-road transport service, which from next August 5th until September 30th for this first phase, will allow the Barumini sites to be connected with Cagliari and other large cities in Sardinia, a great novelty of the summer 2024 and the first step for the island to unite such important sites with the rest of the world. The opportunity is given by the agreement made between the Barumini Sistema Cultura Foundation and Trenitalia which have activated the "Barumini link", a bus service that will connect Barumini to the San Gavino station with a single ticket that can be booked from the Trenitalia website and which can be purchased in the stations .
The service – From next Monday, therefore, the service will start and will be active with two daily trips (round trip) divided throughout the day. In particular, the routes include: from 5 August to 30 September two trips (return) on weekdays and one return trip on holidays. The Fondazione - Trenitalia project aims to increase the usability of the archaeological sites in the area both by tourists and residents of Sardinia.
The Foundation – «From Monday, if you type online how to visit the archaeological sites of Barumini, there will be the possibility of finding a reference for a direct connection to the territory and no longer just through tour operators or car rental, but simply with a search on the Internet and from the Trenitalia website. What we are inaugurating is a great opportunity to be able to strengthen our tourist connections and increase flows in one of the best known and most visited archaeological sites in Sardinia", the president of the Barumini Foundation, Emanuele Lilliu, said in a press conference. «Those who arrive in Barumini today are extremely motivated tourists because they have to rent a car or refer to the connections organized with tour operators and the shuttles that arrive from the hotels. Giving anyone the opportunity to reach us directly by public transport means creating what our island needs so much, i.e. efficient internal connections."
Trenitalia – «We reiterate our commitment to enhancing the territory with connections to places of interest such as the Barumini site, a UNESCO heritage site», underlines Francesca Caradonna, regional director of Trenitalia Sardinia. «For this reason we have created the Barumini link train+bus service which allows Sardinian citizens and tourists to reach the archaeological site with a 35 minute bus journey from the San Gavino train station».
The Museums Directorate - «Accessibility is one of the requirements for maintaining the UNESCO frieze and it is also for this reason that a project like the one inaugurated today takes on even more strategic importance», says Valentina Uras, regional director of National Museums for Sardinia . «We are talking about an initiative that sees us involved together with the Foundation and Trenitalia to guarantee shuttles that connect the airport with the railway stations and Barumini - he adds - an initiative that promotes the growth of the site, its valorization and use».
The Municipality - For the mayor of Barumini, Michele Zucca , «this project will allow us to strengthen our territorial development policies aimed at offering services to the territory with further support for tourist flows in our city and supporting work among the young people of our communities premises, while growing the connected economy. We hope that this project can be a trailblazer for the neighboring territories."
The Region - Rossana Podda, director of the regional tourism department, also participated in the event and in her speech welcoming the appointment she underlined the Region's interest in supporting these initiatives, confirming short-term meetings. «I believe that this is just the starting point and we must not stop here. We must continue, this is an input and we must work together not only with the Tourism Department, but also with those of Transport and Culture so that we act in sync."
