A film in Talysh, a minority language in Iran, and two works in Kurdish win the ninth edition of the Babel Film Festival , the first international film competition dedicated exclusively to works that give voice to linguistic and cultural minorities . On Friday 13 June, at the Exmà in via San Lucifero in Cagliari , the eagerly awaited awards ceremony for the works in competition took place, hosted by Renzo Cugis and Alessia Simoncelli .

Among the 61 selected films ( 19 feature films, 9 documentaries and 33 short films coming from 18 countries around the world for a total of 38 different languages) the Maestrale awards go to When the Walnut leaves turn yellow , by Mehmet Ali Konar , for the best feature film.   (kirdki-zazaki - Kurdish dialect); to Dartas - Carpenter, by Xelil Sehragerd , for the best documentary   (Kurdish); and for the best short film to Azheh , by Hadi Rezayati Charan (Talysh language).

Special mentions for Nessun posto al mondo by Vanina Lappa (feature film), Gathering firewood by Liivo Niglas (documentary), and Ultraveloci by Paolo Bonfadini and Davide Morando (short film).

The awards were assigned by the jury chaired by the director from Cagliari Enrico Pau and composed of the director Julie Perreard, the linguist Sabrina Rasom , the director Alessandro Gagliardo and the documentary maker Monica Dovarch.
