When it comes to scoring numbers at the box office that will outshine any advance of the competition, nothing can oust James Cameron from his throne.

The Canadian director, author of cult titles such as "Aliens - Final Clash" and "Titanic", achieved in 2009, with the theatrical release of the first "Avatar", the highest gross ever achieved in the history of cinema, competing for a I broke the coveted record with the episode of the Marvel Studios saga “Avengers: Endgame”.

The sequel released at the end of 2022 "Avatar - the Way of Water" is now placed in third position among the most profitable blockbusters of all time, as well as having brilliantly juggled the opinions of critics with several awards and nominations at the BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscars. Such a surprising result - for a universe that promises to extend for several more chapters in the coming years - originates mainly from the charm of its world, which combines the science fiction element with the aspect linked to folklore and tribal culture. But in the same way it was the excellent quality of the computer graphics and special effects that attracted the attention of the masses, considering that - by tradition - Cameron's cinema sets new standards in technological progress at each event. And after the official confirmation for the release of the third episode of "Avatar" at the end of 2025, Cameron wanted to share some previews about the future "Avatar 6" and "Avatar 7".

The interview granted to People Magazine dates back to the beginning of this month, on the occasion of the 51st edition of the Saturn Awards, during which the director declared: «We have written up to the fifth film and I have ideas for the sixth and seventh ».

Cameron also wryly acknowledged that he must "pass the baton" to a successor when the time comes, as "mortality takes its toll." Cameron also expects the cinematic universe to acquire prestige and depth in the same way as historical sagas such as “Star Wars” or “Star Trek”, arguing in particular: «We are still a young universe. We're only two films in and we're halfway through the third." Achieving this level of “cultural impact” is no small feat, which is why he said he “will have to put all his heart and energy into it” to achieve the goal.

Regarding the success of the first two films, he added: «People are intrinsically empathetic. They naturally tend and want a connection with others and with beauty. Science fiction films are all dystopian. Ours actually has a somewhat dystopian message, but it talks about beauty, connection, positive values, and it seems to work."

Among the various rumors, one has even emerged that the next "Avatar 3" would have an unprecedented duration of nine hours.

Also during the "Saturn Awards" the director gave an interview to Temple of Geek, and on the merits of the matter he stated that, rather than making such a long film, he would prefer to "put a gun in his mouth". Below are his precise statements: «By the way, can I deny a rumor that is circulating? There is no nine-hour rough cut of Avatar 3… I would put a gun in my mouth if I ever did a nine-hour rough cut. No, what I said is that it's nine hours of material, meaning Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, which is three hours for one film. Somehow it turned into nine hours."

As often happens, a misunderstanding was enough to quickly unleash misleading chatter.

Although fans' expectations have no limits, we are willing to bet that nine hours would put even the most hardened cinephile to the test. In any case, it seems that the work is proceeding well, and we are ready to bet that it won't be long before we receive news on the next developments.
