Jannik Sinner's adventure at the Australian Open begins in the best possible way. The world number one and reigning champion of the tournament overcomes the first round by beating the Chilean Nicolás Jarry, in three sets with the score of 7-6, 7-6, 6-1 in 2 hours and 42 minutes of play.

The Chilean performed excellently, holding his own against the South Tyrolean for two sets with his bomb serve and his violent forehand, never losing his serve. In the two tie-breaks (won 7-2 and 7-5), however, Sinner's greater class came out, as always ruthless in the decisive moments. In the third set, the Chilean gave in suddenly and the Italian prevailed in just half an hour with a score of 6-1 .

"I was good at managing complicated situations in the first two sets ," said the Italian after the victory. "I really like the Australian crowd, as well as the courts. But every year, every day is different. I'm happy to have won, I can do a couple of things better but it's the first match of the season: I'm satisfied."

" Success should never change you as a person ," concluded the South Tyrolean champion, thanking his staff. "Last year was beautiful, but I think I'm still the same. I have the best team in the world with me."

In the second round, Sinner will face Tristan Schoolkate, a 23-year-old Australian ranked number 173 in the world . In the draw thanks to a wild card, Schoolkate beat the Japanese Taro Daniel in four sets. The match is scheduled for Thursday and promises to be much more manageable than the first round for the South Tyrolean.
