Excellent debut for Larissa Iapichino at the Paris Olympics. The Italian, who had to miss Tokyo 2020 due to injury, flies to 6.87 in the long run with the second jump and takes direct qualification for the final by exceeding the required measurement of 6.75 after starting with 6.60.

In the overall ranking of the two qualifying series , Iapichino is second behind the American indoor champion Tara Davis-Woodhall who lands at 6.90 , while the other big favorite of this race, the German reigning champion Malaika Mihambo, places a 6.86 on the third try. The women's long distance final is scheduled for Thursday starting at 8pm.

«It was a good qualification, I liked it because I hate competing in the morning - Iapichino's comment - because I'm an afternoon-evening type. But, jokes aside, it was great because I'm finally an Olympic athlete too and I'm also in the final. I put a lot of determination and enthusiasm into it, and I thought of myself as a seven-eight year old when I dreamed of reaching such a goal. Now I'm in the final and I'll go and play it as always, with the knife between my teeth."
