The ancient tradition of the Sardinian carnival took center stage in Venice with the masks of the Mamutzones antigos of Samugheo. The group was chosen, together with others from the island , to represent the carnivals brought by Unpli (National Union Pro Loco d'Italia) to one of the most important events in the lagoon city.

The “ Mamutzones ” – writes Pro Loco Sardegna on social networks – “represent both the passion and the death of Dionysus, god of vegetation, whose festivals were celebrated in almost all ancient agricultural societies. Dionysus, the god who died and was reborn every year, like vegetation, is represented by the zoomorphic mask of 'S'Urtzu', who wears an entire goat skin, with the head attached”.
