This afternoon, the plaque in honor of the archaeologist Ferruccio Barreca, to whom the conference room was also dedicated, was placed in the Ianua Doro Levi of the former Royal Museum in Piazza Indipendenza in Cagliari.

The occasion was an event to remember the figure of the famous Superintendent of Antiquities of Cagliari from 1967 to 1986, as well as director of the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari and professor of Punic Antiquities and Punic Phoenician Archeology at the University of Cagliari, who in Isola lived for about thirty years, making a notable contribution in particular to extending knowledge on the Phoenician-Punic civilisation.

A figure honored with various testimonies, introduced by the director of the National Museums of Cagliari Francesco Muscolino and coordinated by the archaeologist Maria Antonietta Mongiu, member of the Board of Directors of the National Museums of Cagliari and president of the Technical-Scientific Committee Insularity in Constitution. «He was not only an important archaeologist who conducted fundamental excavations, but also a great popularizer», says Muscolino. «I owe some fundamental principles of education to him: he was a very cultured, refined and polite person», Mongiu's memory.

The testimonies. During the event, two period videos from Videolina starring Professor Barreca were shown. The first, dating back to 1976, was saved by Mariano Zuddas - dean of the Museums' staff - and concerns an interview in which he presented the National Archaeological Museum, the second is from 1982 and sees him interviewed by the journalist Giacomo Serreli, present this afternoon .

Two very rare testimonies, recovered after a long work: «We tried to correct both the audio part and the countless shortcomings of the image, which had damaged the magnetic support over time», explains Alessandro Fiori, technical director of Videolina. «The video was sent to a company in Florence, to work on it with artificial intelligence and perfectly reconstruct the image: it's a gamble, but I think that in the future we will apply it to many of our other productions to save and preserve them». Among the memories also the commemoration of Barreca by the former president of the Sardinia Region Mario Melis, read by the actress Lia Careddu, and the donation by his daughter Giannina Liccardi of numerous memorabilia of her father.
